Poet: Edgar Allen Poe
In the poem " a valentine" the poets describes his valentine, her personality, her characteristics. He describes her as being in love with him and how she cherishes his every word. He says her eyes are luminous meaning full of light, enlightening or intelligent. She is very expressive in how she feels. She is the reason for all the lies and problems she causes him. The poet goes on and says read the lines closely, because they hold a treasure which can be many things such as love and happiness. He mentions a talisman which is an object which is believed to contain certain magical properties that gives good luck, and an amulet that its most important power is to protect its owner from danger or harm.Overall, he describes her personality and how when she loves her emotions can sometimes take over her in which this makes her vulnerable to being hurt. That`s where the talisman and amulet comes in which i believe symbolizes the poet.
